Through industry events and competitions, MUIBC members have extensive opportunities to deploy newly learned skills and build their professional network.
Each year, students evaluate a company's strategic alternatives, potential sale or acquisition options, and recommend a strategy to the management team. MUIBC primarily competes in the William Blair Case Competition and the Harvard University Global Case Competition.
MUIBC students apply the technical and personal development skills they have learned in the club through to create presentations that demonstrate their understanding of the “winning-the-mandate” stage of the mergers & acquisitions process.
Each January, Finance students have two opportunities to network, learn and build their resumes — the Chicago Finance Week and Wall Street Week. These programs give students access to the fastest rising and most influential speakers and ideas in the financial world. Executives and Miami alumni from leading firms like Bank of America, William Blair, Morgan Stanley and Credit Suisse interact with members on a personal level.
Stock pitch competitions provide an opportunity for students to demonstrate knowledge of the financial markets and to pitch an investment idea to industry professionals.
The investment idea is evaluated as a long or short position with a 3–12 month investment horizon. Teams of 2–4 students put together stock pitch presentations and finalists present their ideas to the Cleveland Research Company. The winning team represents Miami University at a national level, competing against various universities, through the University of Michigan MII Intercollegiate Stock Pitch Competition.
The Adventis Financial Modeling Program equips aspiring finance professional with the financial modeling and analytical skills they need to make an immediate impact.
Students learn how to complete a three-statement, fully circular financial model and combine it with common valuation practices. The FMC certification process has allowed MUIBC students to speak to their background in financial modeling in interviews and serve as a valuable resource when they reach their internship or full-time positions.
Admission is highly selective and applications are currently open to freshmen and sophomores.
